Ali Carter...
Starting at age three, Ali began building her foundations in dance with ballet, tap, and jazz at a local studio in her hometown of Grand Rapids, MI. She focused on her ballet training in middle school by performing with the youth ballet company C.A.R.E. under the direction of Judy Genson. As a freshman in high school, she became an ensemble member of the company and went on to perform in ballets including Romeo & Juliet, Coppelia, and Cinderella. She was then introduced to modern dance by the head of the dance department, Bridget Roosa, during her first year at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. With the college’s dance company, Studio Dance Theatre, she performed original works by Roosa as well as works reconstructed from Labanotation score by Roosa such as Negro Spirituals by Helen Tamiris, Charles Weidman’s Lynchtown, and Shakers by Doris Humphrey. In addition, she studied dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London during the Fall of 2010 and was certified in Elementary Labanotation during the Spring of 2011. She graduated from Agnes Scott College in the Spring of 2011 with a B.A. in dance and psychology. Currently, she is working with the interdenominational, Christian mission’s organization cru at Agnes Scott College and Georgia Tech. She is grateful that by God’s grace He has granted her a passion for dance, supported it with many years of training, and has now given her the opportunity to combine her love of dance and love for Jesus Christ by performing with Refuge Dance Company. |
