Our Pre-Ballet classes are a fun way to beginning learning ballet steps such as plié, tendu, sauté, marching and skipping to just name a few! Classes begin with floor combinations designed to build strength and flexibility and progress to movement across the floor to inspire leaping and learning. Imagination and creativity are encouraged in this level to nurture a lifelong love of dance
Our Pre-Ballet and Jazz classes are perfect for any student new to dance as no previous experience is required. Students will be introduced to basic ballet steps and musicality through barre and centre ballet work. They will develop coordination and flexibility through Jazz technique and combinations to fun music created to inspire the performer inside! Students at this level attend one 1 or 1 1/2 hour long class per week.
Our Beginning Ballet level teaches the basic foundation of ballet technique. Through systematic exercises and introducing ballet vocabulary, students will begin to build a solid foundation for a lifelong love of dance. Class begins with barre work to build strength and coordination, followed by center exercises, and finishing with traveling movement and allegro. Students at this level are required to have 1+ year of ballet training in order to enroll in these classes. We recommend students take two or three days of classes at this level.
Beginning Lyrical Jazz - Students may sign up for this class as a single class or in addition to their Beginning Ballet class. This is a 1 hour Jazz class where students will learn basic Jazz technique, gain strength and flexibility and move to some really fun music! Expressing and performing is key to any dancer’s training, and this class is sure to bring it out in every student!
Our Elementary Ballet Level is designed to complete and polish the basic technique learned in our Beginning Ballet level. Students are taught a complete barre and center work program as well as grande allegro and pointe work. Careful consideration is taken when placing any student on pointe, and pre-pointe work is required before this is allowed. Instilling a healthy body image and attitude toward self-care is also a vital part of this level. Students are encouraged to take risks and dance beyond what they accomplished the day before and therefore progress beautifully.
Students at this level are required to have 2+ years of ballet training and girls are either in the process or on pointe. We offer three days of 1 1/2 hour ballet technique classes, with one 1/2 hour pre-pointe or pointe class. 1 hour of Contemporary/Modern is also recommended.
Our Intermediate/Advanced Ballet level focuses on refining each movement and step within their technique. At this level, we focus on cultivating the performer within each student breaking down the lie that practice makes perfect and instead practice to make progress. A student’s progress is never measured against other students and teamwork is fundamental. Students at this level are required to have 3+ years of ballet and are looking for serious ballet training on a professional track.
We offer four days a week of 1 1/2 hour ballet technique classes, with two 1/2 hour pointe classes with variations and partnering opportunities. 1 hour of Contemporary/Modern class is also recommended. In addition to these classes, each student at this level is invited to take Refuge Dance Ensemble on Saturdays. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain performance and artistry skills that normal class time doesn’t allow.
